You've probably already considered this, but just for the record... An alternative option is to tag in an unobtrusive field for everyone, and have the 'opt in' action be to actively filter using the presence of the tag. I actually started tagging the email for our whole campus last weekend, and no-one has noticed yet ;-) (It was _very_ unobtrusive - hidden in a "Received" header line...)
