Tomasz,

Thanks for the suggestions, I'd used a similar approach to get it all working, but was more concerned as to why the original approach failed. I use this with many other packages without problem, and wondered wether there was actually a problem/error somewhere within the Makefiles that ought to be resolved.

Thanks again for the help

Andy

OK, so it doesn't run that fast on the machine, but it's only checking incoming mail so it has as long as it takes...

There is no problem with the ./configure on the build machine. The build runs fine on the i686 machine, the problem is trying to do a 'make install' on the i586 machine :-

You can do this manually - do "make install" on i686 and then copy installed files to i586 (you will find them in /usr/local/bin, /usr/local/sbin, /usr/local/sbin

Oh, my last suggestion wasn't very smart, just do: ./configure --prefix=/tmp/clamav --sysconfdir=/etc --with-dbdir=/usr/share/clamav and everything (except for clamav.conf and databases) will be installed in /tmp/clamav.

Best regards,
Tomasz Kojm
