One can compile basic drivers with MinGW without linking to MS DDK. We
are working to improve that. More info on this very soon.

I have to go with Alch's reply on that.

Fair enough. We do care where we compile our software and we will
improve MinGW for this job. I wouldn't call MinGW an 'obscure open
source setup' though.

The more goodies you come up with the better it is. A very good GUI
