I just learned that SuSE even removed the Ceph kernel modules from their enterprise kernel package in 15.7. This means you cannot mount CephFS or map an RBD when using SuSE Linux Enterprise Server any more.
The kernel rbd and cephfs are in upstream kernel, they were not removed in SUSE kernel, SLE 16.0 public release candidate (based on 6.12) has all upstream modules.
Ofcourse if they do indeed stop the user space rbd client package then mapping/un-mapping images will not be straightforward.
You maybe referring to the iSCSI rbd kernel module developed by SUSE, and this has been dropped in their kernel. We at PetaSAN actively maintain this module as it gives good performance, if anyone relies on this module, they can use our patched kernel.
