Anent strange floppy formats--I recall there being one in the early 70s that used a UART to encode an entire track (1 sector per track). I'm not talking about using a USRT-but an honest-to-goodness 8-bit plus parity start-stop, etc. device.
Was that one an OSI innovation? -Chuck
