In 1981, IBM immediately released the "PC Technical Reference Manual" which included schematics, and source code for the BIOS ROM. TheI gave my copy of that to someone on this list in Toronto a few years ago.
If you buy a replacement of the old manual, the V2.02 is quite a bit better.
