I was very surprised to discover a couple of years ago that many in the USA pronounce "squirrel" as "skwerl". My surprise was subsequently pushed to its limits when I discovered that the 'L' in 'solder' has become silent and it is now commonly pronounced "sodder". But yesterday, I discovered that the 'L' in words such as "palm", "balm" and "psalm" is _no longer_ silent and is actively pronounced in some regions of the US, and mere surprise was no longer adequate and I was forced to resort to astonishment. -- Liam Proven – Profile: https://about.me/liamproven Email: lpro...@cix.co.uk – gMail/gTalk/gHangouts: lpro...@gmail.com Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn/Flickr: lproven – Skype: liamproven UK: +44 7939-087884 – ČR (+ WhatsApp/Telegram/Signal): +420 702 829 053
