In addition to what Fred mentioned, there are some drives that employ the "in Use" line to allow the host to illuminate the drive. I've got a couple of YE Data drives that behave in this manner. On 8" drives, this corresponds to "Head Load". It's pin 4 on the interface and is active-low. You could probably tie it to the appropriate "drive select" pin. --Chuck
