I would imagine a teletype would be way over USPS' maximum weight limit anyway.
Something happened with USPS 2 years ago or so where prices just went through the roof. Even on small stuff it was ridiculous, at least, to Canada. Well for big things shipping I think it is about the same for the last few years. It is the US mail that is strange ... $3.00* for 3 weeks or $60 for overnight.
