Dear Professor Rice,

Thank you for sharing this very sad news.

Speaking on behalf of the myriad crystallography-based biochemists who came up 
in the 1990s, Bill was someone who many of us looked up to, learned from, and 
relied upon for practical solutions to common problems.  Bill's willingness to 
contribute so much time and effort to the greater community was exemplary.  
People like him (and there are many of you) are the reason why crystallography 
continues to be one of the (if not the) greatest and most impactful scientific 
communities.
