I initially thought of glycerol but it would be strange having them interacting
with these negative side chains. Could you run a Mass Spec of your gel? It
should be easy to identify everything bound to this region of the protein.

Best wishes

Assunto: [ccp4bb] Density identification

Dear community,

I have a so far unexplained density near two Asp’s and one Asn on the surface
of my protein (a bacterial enzyme). It could be connected to the Asp residues
but I don’t know of any posttranslational modification (if that’s what it is)
that would fit. I’ve put three different views in the attachment with blue
2Fo-Fc contoured at 1.0 sigma, and green/red Fo-Fc at +3.0/-3.0 sigma.

The crystallization components are PEG 20k, glycerol, MES, BisTrisPropane, NaCl
and CaCl2.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

With kind regards,

Tjaard
