Mac user here (15.3.1), have to jump through a few hoops, but I found this a while back when I also wanted to open .ps files: https://superuser.com/questions/1769824/is-there-a-macos-command-line-tool-for-converting-eps-or-ps-files-to-pdf (TLDR: home brew install ghostscript, then use ps2pdf)
