Dear colleagues, I would be most grateful if you could bring the opening below to the attention of potentially interested candidates.
With many thanks, Olga *PhD position: Structure and biophysics of mechanosensory proteins* We have a vacancy for a PhD student to join our laboratory at the Department of Biology, University of Konstanz. The position is fully-funded. Our laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms by which proteins sense mechanical signals and translate them into biochemical events that trigger the adaptation of the cell to mechanical stimulation. The focus of the available PhD project is on characterising the molecular changes that take place in elastic muscle kinases upon mechanical load and identifying the protein components of their signalling communication cascades across cellular organelles. Mechanistic hypotheses are to be developed and tested at the molecular level. In this work, we will apply an integrative experimental approach that will combine molecular engineering with a rich variety of biochemical, biophysical, computational and structural methodologies, with emphasis on X-ray crystallography. *Qualifications* Applicants should hold (or be in the process of obtaining) a Master's degree in biophysics, biochemistry or related discipline, and be interested in learning both laboratory-based and computational methods as applicable to the study of biomolecules. A strong motivation to understand and discover the molecular mechanisms that enable function in living cells is required. Basic experience in working in a laboratory is needed. Initial experience in protein production and analysis would be of advantage. Good command of written and spoken English, the ability to work in a team, and good communication and organizational skills are expected. *Application* Applications should contain the following documents in PDF format: 1. Applicant's CV including contact details of two referees 2. Copies of original degree transcripts displaying marks obtained for both BSc and MSc degrees 3. A (short) statement of motivation for pursuing PhD studies in molecular sciences Informal enquiries and application materials should be submitted by email to: olga.may...@uni-konstanz.de ====================================== Prof. Olga Mayans Biophysics and Structural Biology Department of Biology Universität Konstanz D-78457 Konstanz, Germany Tel: +49 7531 88-2212 olga.may...@uni-konstanz.de ====================================== ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the CCP4BB list, click the following link: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/WA-JISC.exe?SUBED1=CCP4BB&A=1 This message was issued to members of www.jiscmail.ac.uk/CCP4BB, a mailing list hosted by www.jiscmail.ac.uk, terms & conditions are available at https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/policyandsecurity/
