Dear Graeme, Yes indeed, interesting. There are clearly aspects of microED of proteins which might be documented as non-obvious otherwise it wouldn’t have been a bit stuck ie without the widespread community take up until recent years. In terms of a concept patent, which this might be interpreted as, an interesting one in my experience was the Kodak Storage Phosphor patent which held up Fuji for a considerable time in its commercialisation of its image plates even though Fuji had several specific know how patents. In terms of cost of patenting, especially worldwide, this is a major stumbling block at least at Univ Manchester who have a keen eye for whether it might be deemed worth it. Thanks for sharing.
