Hi Klaas,

a very concise description of your problem!

Actually, you don't need to install arpwarp through the ccp4i interface. Once you setup your ccp4 environment, you can just run the install.sh (or install.csh in your case) which is in the arp-warp directory and everything should be set up for you.

Dear colleagues,

I have problems installing external tasks to CCP4i. This particularly
involves ARP/wARP 7.0.1. Despite the error message shown by the
install/uninstall form after setting the location of the task archive
file,
I assume that the problem is due to an error or incompatibility with my
work
surrounding concerning the install functions in CCP4i.

The following error message shows up when I specify the path to the
installer archive::
Failed to unpack and/or read contents of
/home/klaas/ccp4/arp_warp_7.0.1/ARP_wARP_CCP4I6.tar.gz. This may not be a
valid CCP4i package.

At the same time, the following error messages show up on the console:

UnpackTaskArchive: uncompress failed to create
"/tmp/klaas/install_ARP_wARP_CCP4I6/ARP_wARP_CCP4I6.tar"
ExamineTaskArchive: failed to unpack temporary copy of
/home/klaas/ccp4/arp_warp_7.0.1/ARP_wARP_CCP4I6.tar.gz

The following steps were tried out to overcome this problem:

1.) I checked the location of the archive - it was exactly as specified.

2.) I manually extracted the archive (using unpack and tar -xvf) - this
worked but
unfortunately didn't help to install the ARP/wARP package.

3.) I copied the extracted archive into the specified temp directory but
the
installation task complained that the respective directory has to be
empty
to install new tasks and removed the content. Thereafter the original
error
message reappeared.

4.) I checked the existence of the temp directory (/tmp/klaas). It
existed and was
read and writeable. I even made it writeable to everyone but this didn't
solve
the problem.

5.) I changed the temp directory to /home/klaas and made this directory
accessible to everyone, this didn't help either.

6.) I tried to manually install the task archive to ccp4i running the
CCP4i_packages_utils.tcl
script from the console ( tclsh CCP4i_packages_utils.tcl ARP_wARP_CCP4I6
LOCAL ARP_wARP_CCP4I6.tar.gz). No error message showed up but nothing
happened either.

I am using CCP4i on a novel installation of ubuntu 8.10 using the tcsh.
The CCP4 package was compiled from the source code and installed locally
on my user account. It turned out to be functional apart from the problem
reported here. I already successfully ran contact, phaser, baverage,
matthews & refmac5 using the CCP4i interface.
Taken all these informations into account I assume that the cause of the
faulty installation task is probably located in the
CCP4i_packages_utils.tcl script, which hosts the procedures
UnpackTaskArchive and ExamineTaskArchive, probably in context with my
operating system or work surrounding as otherwise many people would have
noticed similar difficulies.
In fact, however, there are two additional postings that describe similar
problems when installing tasks:

1.) by Gerlind Sulzenbacher on Mon, 26 Jun 2006, involving CCP4i 6.0.1 &
ARP/wARP: http://www.mail-archive.com/ccp...@dl.ac.uk/msg03190.html

2.) by Roberto Bossi on Mon, 07 Apr 2008, involving CCP4i 6.0.2 & Mr.
Bump
http://www.mail-archive.com/ccp4bb@jiscmail.ac.uk/msg05535.html

Under these threads I have found not suitable solution.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I urgently need ARP/wARP.
Thank you very much for your time and support,

cheers,
Klaas
