Dear Frank AKTAs are excellent chromatographic systems, but you must know that AKTA prime is not the best choice if you want to do "serious" chromatography. AKTA prime has only one pump and a valve that alternatively extract solvent from the two different reservoirs. If you want to do a gradient, for example to purify by anion exchange chromatography, the quality will be poor, because the valve will switch continously from one reservoir to another. I don't have any information about the problem that you pointed out about the Superdex column. Actually the column that you indicate in your post is to be run at this flow rate (around 0.2 ml/min max). Higher flow rates will compact the column bed, but I am not expecting a lot of problems in pressure in the system.
My personal advice is that if you can afford it go to the AKTA FPLC. This is a real chromatograph, with two pumps and a mixer for gradients, and I think it is better to invest a little more money. Of course that other alternatives like the Biorad Econo systems (as it has been already posted in this BB) are fine, economic, and very useful, but the quality of the material is poor. Hope it helps.
