I am jabbering about the fact that you are repeating a lie - that the
President was "appointed" rather than elected in 2000 - so often as to
actually start to believe that it is true.

You didn't ask what George Bush would do if he were president, which would
be silly, since he is. You asked what *I* would do. I haven't been
elected, so I'd resign. I believe in democracy. I only mentioned
"appointed" as one fantastic way of three ways of becoming president without
being elected.

I'm not just taking you literally for the fun of it. I really don't think
it's my business to go around pretending that I'm president of the United
States to make my opinions seem more important. I'll just speak my opinions
as who I am, not who I might be in anybody's fantasy, yours or mine.

My simple answer to "What you you do if you were president?" is "I am not
the president." And I am quite certain I never will be.

I have been sarcastic lately and I think it's because on Friday, it will
have been two years since Wes was blown to bits in Fallujah and I'm flailing
around for an appropriate response more than usual as the anniversary draws
near. Sarcasm probably isn't it, but nor is pretending I'm the president.
I just want to be me, which is hard enough.

All you 'merican citizens out there in Brin-L land, please vote tomorrow.
Wes and a lot of other fine people died serving our country, right or wrong,
may she ever be right. So participate in the thing, okay? This is not
sarcasm.

And hey, tomorrow is my youngest granddaughter's second birthday! That sad
week two years ago was also a happy one. Ain't life weird.
