Tryptophan got pulled from a lot of places sometime around 1990.
(1989? I was using it in late 1988, early 1989, and it helped me some
-- but it could have been placebo effect, for all I know.) Never tried
Melatonin.
I'm suffering from "sleepy but unable to fall asleep" at times, but
that's just a function of my current reproductive status. (For those of
you who have been pregnant or lived with a pregnant woman, the condition
I'm in right now is probably analogous to being 44+ weeks along with a
single baby.)

Dan's experience is that if he exercises, he gets clearer signals from
his body as to just what it wants or needs, and he is *less* hungry if
he's getting enough exercise. Which means he loses weight slowly and
steadily if he's exercising regularly, while it creeps up if he drops
off on it. (If I'm right around the weight my body seems to like, which
is 130 lbs., exercising just changes around the percentages of fat &
muscle weight in my body and makes me *feel* better.)

Hey, you've got a mind -- try to have fun with it during those times!
:) (My mother regularly wakes up for an hour or two in the middle of
the night, and years ago decided to try to *enjoy* it, and she's been
generally happier since.)
