Yes, Iraq qualifies as a republic. But it isn't a democratically elected republic. Earlier I posted the Oxford definition of democracy. Here's the Oxford definition of democratic and the thesaurus entry:

�1chosen, elected, elective, popular, representative. 2classless, egalitarian.

The government of Iraq is not egalitarian, does not favor social equality, is not popular among the Iraqi people, and is not representative of the true will of the Iraqi people. Therefore, even though it is a republic, it is not a democratic republic.
