If you don't have an Animal Control department that
loans out live traps (or comes out to remove the
animals unharmed), you could try bringing a friend's
dog (on a leash, of course, and maybe a smallish
terrier-type so as not to break through the ceiling)
into the attic when the squirrels are 'home,' watch
where they run to escape, and plug up the holes... :)

I think some vets will loan out live traps as well, or
wildlife rescue societies.
