Weather: Lots of cloud today with a temp to a high of 22C. Winds started out light from the NE and swung through N to NW by the end of the count period. Raptor Observations: Total birds today was 581 with the bulk of the flight Sharpies (310) and TVs (212).... with the remainder a single Osprey, N. Harrier (8), Cooper's Hawks (2), lots of Am. Kestrels (44), a few Merlins (3) and a lone Peregrine. And speaking of Peregrines.... I have to correct the Peregrine record I mentioned for the previous 1-Year record... it was actually 165 from 2014 (and the previous 1-Hour record was 11 from Oct 7 2014 from 11-12 which we did indeed break). However, this means that we've got further to go to break the 1-Year record than I thought. :) With today's single Peregrine our season stands at 149. Non-raptor Observations: I also forgot to mention some good numbers from yesterday with 1,305 Blue Jays and an amazing push of Monarchs with 1,156 !! Today's counts were Blue Jays 3,580 Monarch count today: 37 Other non-raptors today Am. Crow, Canada Geese, E. Starling, White-throated and White-crowned Sparrow, Am. Robin, Killdeer, N. Flicker, Eastern Bluebird, Common Loon, Am. Pipits, Am. Goldfinch, Hairy, Red-bellied and Pileated Woodpeckers, Gray Catbird, Eastern Towhee, WB Nuthatch, YB Sapsucker, BC Chickadee, RC and GC Kinglets, Hermit Thrush, Brown Creeper, Red-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos and even some warblers still around with Yellow-rumped, Nashville, Orange-crowned, Black-throated Green Warbler and Am. Redstart. Predictions: They powers that be are predicting light N to NE winds for Tuesday so there might be some birds on the move but I'm not expecting any kind of big push. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
