Hi,
This morning I got the chance to go down to Blenheim and see the continuing American Avocet. It has been around for over two weeks now, and it looks pretty happy where it is so there is still probably time to see it if you would like to. The bird is in pond #1 in the Blenheim Landfill. To access this location, if driving down Talbot Trail, turn down Erieau Rd. and head north for about 3 km. At address 20262, turn down the little road. Immediately to your right will be a pond behind a chain-link fence. The bird will be in this pond, and should be easy to find, however the phragmites don't help when it comes to viewing. When I saw it, it was near the back with some Yellowlegs. https://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S39788457 Also of note was a Little Gull seen flying with some Bonaparte's in Erieau. To get to Erieau, drive south on Erieau Rd. The pier where most birders will park and scope out the gulls is closed for construction, however the part that juts out into the lake with the lighthouse at the end is still accessible.
