Weather: A brisk north wind this morning, coupled with cool temperatures, made one yearn for the warmth of a fire. Barometric pressure rose until 11, and then dropped afterwards. Cloud cover dropped as the day progressed, which helped to warm us up. Raptor Observations: Today, we thought, had the potential to be a very good day to see raptors, given the wind conditions and the bad weather yesterday. However, numbers of birds counted weren't especially high. We had a slow trickle of Red-tailed Hawks, several small streams of TVs, and 4 Golden Eagles, as well as a several Accipiters and Red-shouldered Hawks. Non-raptor Observations: Yet another late-in-the-year-Monarch Butterfly was spotted, as well as only 10 American Crows, about 75 Canada Geese, and 3 Tundra Swans. Predictions: Tomorrow is predicted to be sunny with strong southwest winds, which might push raptors out of our sight. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
