Sorry for the late posting. I got back from the Carden Plain late yesterday evening and on my answering machine was a message about a sighting of a Whooping Crane, seen about 2:30 pm, on Thursday, flying over Lambeth (west London) heading north at over 1000 feet up. That means it probably skirted over London on the extreme west end. Today I contacted, Tom Bolohan, the individual who reported the bird, and he said he got a good look at it with binoculars as it flew over. I am reporting it, simply to give people a heads up, as it is likely much farther north by today. But if it is reported again in this area, I will be sure to put it on in a more timely fashion, should I be available to do so.
Pete Read Lambeth is a community, part of London, (at the extreme southwest corner). >From the 402, it is located less than a mile from the interchange with Colonel Talbot Rd (highway 4 at that point). He was working off that road, on Outer Drive, at the south end of the village, (first road north of the 402) The bird was flying parallel to Colonel Talbot Rd.
