Chuck Owens Gloria Harkness Ron Harkness Joe Bartell Weather: Mostly cloudy conditions early gave way to sunny skies by late morning. Heavier cloud cover rolled into the area again as the afternoon progressed. Winds were light to moderate south-southwest becoming south-southeast in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: The flight picked up sharply today when the skies brightened in the morning and dropped off just as quickly when the cloud cover became reestablished in the afternoon. Todays movement was remarkable similar to the last several days in diversity and numbers of each species recorded. Also as yesterday, many of the birds crossed well to the north but enough were over the count area to give most of the watchers good looks at a number of species. Non-raptor Observations: Highlighting the day was a juvenile Northern Gannet seen during pre-count wanderings at 8:45 am. The bird was seen in flight over the mouth of the Detroit River near Celeron Island as it made several circles around before disappearing behind the island. It was not seen again after that point. Also at about 2:30 pm, 2 probable Cave Swallows were seen near Celeron Island. These birds may have roosted in the Fragmites along that shoreline and will perhaps reappear from that general location tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/
