Hi Everyone
Today, August 12, my son Ben and I birded the Ottawa River between
Shirley's Bay and Britannia Conservation Area. There was a definite change
in the birds since my Wednesday visit. There were 4 juv. Baird's Sandpipers
and an increase in juv. Lesser Yellowlegs, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers
and Semipalmated Plovers. At the base of the dyke we observed a Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher in a mixed flock of warblers. Also present was 1 Dark-eyed
Junco. There were 2 Great Egrets and 130+ Double- crested Cormorants feeding
off the first island.
At the Britannia Conservation Area there was a good movement of warblers
including 30 Nashville, 45 Yellow, 10 American Redstart, 25 Yellow-rumped,
15 Black & White , 1 Northern Waterthrush and 1 Yellow-throated Vireo along
the ridge. We also saw 1 Winter Wren and 2 Red-breasted Nuthatch.
