Hi All

Today we saw a large number of Tundra Swans within the Park, in the Sanctuary
Pond area. I would
estimate a couple of thousand swans could be seen from the Marsh Boardwalk
tower. Sanctuary pond
is frozen but the edge of the pond to the east is open and that's where the
swans were, Lake Pond.
Tundra Swans were also seen in large numbers, in the late afternoon, north of
the Park in the
Hillman Marsh area flying to the south, possibly to the Lake Pond area. I
estimate over 500 were
seen flying south around 4:30-5pm. A really beautiful sight.

Also seen from the Tower were two Great Horned Owls in the willows directly
north of the tower.
Over the Marsh we saw an adult Northern Harrier, a juvie Northern Harrier and a
Bald Eagle. No, I
did not sight any other large pale raptors.

Of other interest, off the west side of the tipless tip, a Black Scoter.

Good Birding,

Ellen Smout

Hillman Marsh is located 5 km north of Point Pelee, kidding Mark.

Directions: From Windsor take Highway #3 to Leamington. Take Oak Street
approximately 7 km east of
Leamington. The main entrance to Hillman Marsh is located on County Road 37 at
the 2nd Concession
Road. Please note: the road on the south side of the Marsh has been CLOSED
since last fall and
is still posted closed. Also of note Concession C, toward the lake, is down to
one lane with
giant evil cement squares in the lane on the north side.

Well, the Great Grays are still in the usually reported places around =
the Ottawa area. On Saturday, March 12th I saw at least 4-5 Great Grays =
around the Kilmaur/Dunrobin area. Saw another 4 Great Grays along March =
Valley road in the late morning. Others on March Valley road told me =
there were many more than that sighted Saturday morning. Heard numbers =
from 8-12 sighted by others. The ones in the Kilmaur/Dunrobin area were =
all sighted perched along the road, either on hydro poles or trees. Saw =
at least 3 Great Grays in the Kilmaur/Dunrobin area Sunday. =20

Saw the earlier reported Snowy Owl on Saturday and Sunday. On both days =
it was first spotted perched on the hydro pole at the corner of Akins =
and Eagleson. That pole is not too high and one can get a very good =
view of the owl. Saturday it was spotted on that corner at about 5pm =
(weather overcast with some sunlight). Sunday it didn't show until =
close to 5:30pm (sunny). From that pole it flys into the field =
bordering Eagleson and Rushmore (if I recall the name of the street =
correctly). =20

Excuse my spelling and Grammar, I am Dyslexic thank you.

Today what started out to be a full day of birding ended up being just a
really nice walk out on Tommy Thompson park ( aka. The Leslie st spit )
and a day full of winter birding in the dying days of it .

Birds seen wear Glaucous Gull 3 , Ice land Gull 1 , Thayer gull 1 , Ring
Billed gull 500+ , Black Scoter 1 , Surf Scoter 1 , Wight winged Scoter
24 , Kestrel 2 , Red Tailed Hawk 1 , and yes the Owls, Great Gray Owl 1
( told of anther ) Boreal 1 , Saw-whet Owl 1 and we wear told that their
had bin a Great Horned Owl flying around all day .

But the nice thing was seen all the birders out enjoying the day and
what the spit has to offer. Bev and I ran in to at lest 7 others that we
had not seen for some time , it almost felt like being in Pelee in May
.

Tommy Thompson Park is found at the end of Leslie st south of the lake
shore blvd. hear in Toronto and is fully open to the public only on
weekends and holidays .
