Hi Everyone
The Great Gray Owls are still around at the regular sites in good
numbers. From Feb. 20th- 21st, a hearty number have been observed at 4
different sites including March Valley Road (10+), Dunrobin Road/Kilmaurs
Side Road (6), Galetta area (3) , Dunrobin (2), Huntmar Road/Richardson Side
Road (8) and other areas. With longer daylight hours, feeding patterns may
be changing somewhat and the birds may not be as predictable as they were
earlier in the winter . Don't give up, the Great Gray is still here in good
numbers!
The Northern Hawk-Owl was present yesterday in the Gatineau Park along
trail #5 / #29. It can easily be overlooked as it sits at the top of White
Pines and blends in, looking like a clump of needles. The male Barrow's
Goldeneye was present again, yesterday, at Remic Rapids just below the
lookout.
A flock of 15 Pine Grosbeaks have been observed in the village of Carp
the last few days feeding on berry trees along Robert Lee Drive and Donald
B. Munro Drive. My 7 yr. old son, Ben, first spotted and identified this
flock on Sunday, then called me on my cell phone to verify his sighting. They
were still present today.
