With a stiff SW wind this morning, there was a lot of waterbird action at
the Tip of Point Pelee. In typical fashion birds were flying from north
to south off the east side, which included a massive movement of
Red-breasted Mergansers -- totalling 87,000 birds in 5 hours.

At about 10:00 a.m. a Pacific Loon came flying by, relatively close to
shore, also flying south. The bird was an adult, but was showing less
breeding plumage than the October 31 adult that flew the identical path.
The Common Loon tally was 300+ birds.

Total observation time: 4 hours

Official Counter: Betty Learmouth

Observers: Carl Latta, Mercer Patriarche

Visitors:
A couple from Brantford were our only visitors today.

Weather:
Winds today were light from the South Southwest with gradual clearing into
the noonhour.

Observations:
Only four raptors were seen today. At 9:25 a.m. a female Merlin flew close
to the tower just to the north. The Northern Goshawk also flew a short
distance from the tower but to the south, flying directly into the
woodland to the west of the tower. The Red-shouldered Hawk flew over the
Trout Pond, then flew off to the north. The single Turkey Vulture flew
west over Big Creek Marsh. Luckily today's sunshine allowed good looks at
all these birds.

Flocks of American Goldfinch, Horned Larks, one large group of American
Crows and a few blackbirds were seen flying over the tower.

Predictions:
Rain is predicted for tomorrow.
