While walking along the Speed River through Riverside Park in Guelph this
afternoon, my husband and I observed a Trumpeter Swan (yellow tag 771). It
approached the bank as we walked by as if it was expecting to be fed. A
little further upriver we also observed a lone female Bufflehead. Also of
interest were the Herring Gulls picking at fish on the last bit of ice above
the dam.

Directions: Take the 401 to the Hwy.#6 North exit (different from the #6
South exit)- also the Hanlon Expressway. Follow it until it ends at
Woodlawn Rd. and turn right (east). There is an entrance to Riverside Park
on the right hand side of Woodlawn just east of Woolwich. This parking lot
is above the dam. Both the Swan and the Bufflehead were seen in this part
of the river.
