Hello Ontbirders, A first winter male Dickcissel has been visiting the feeder of Don and Phoebe Campbell since December 23rd. James Holdsworth, John Harvey, Richard Skevington and I watched the bird today between 11:30 and 1:30 pm. Birders are welcome at the Campbell property. You may either knock on the door and introduce yourself or simply walk to the southeast side of the house and watch from there.
To get to the Campbell home, go to Embro (just west of Woodstock), travel north of Embro on Oxford Co. Rd. 6. After roughly 2 km, turn left (west) on Road 84 (also shown as Co. Rd. 16 in my Ontario map book). Take this road 3 concessions west to 31st line and turn north (right). Their property is the first on the right (#315944). The bird has been frequenting a thicket on the northeast side of the house. To avoid scaring the bird, walk around the west side of the house and position yourself on the southeast side.
