Hi birders, Birding was quite good this weekend. This weekend at Blenheim sewage lagoons were a total of 7 Hudsonian Godwits. By today most of the shorebirds had left, but the godwits were there, as well as a Wilson's Phalarope, a Stilt Sandpiper, and a few Lesser Yellowlegs and Short-billed Dowitchers. These were in pond 5. In pond 1 was an immature Horned Grebe which is very early. In Rondeau Park this weekend I observed a total of 21 species of warblers. A large number of these were Blackpoll. A couple of Yellow yesterday were noteworthy. Today I added Bluewinged and Northern Waterthrush. No Yellow-rumped have shown yet. Philadelphia Vireos were in good numbers also.
Lagoon directions: Blenheim is located between Chatham and Rondeau Provincial Park. Exit the 401 at what they used to call Hwy. 40, exit 90. Go south to Blenheim. At the main street in Blenheim (stop light) turn right/west. Go out of Blenheim on this road (old Hwy.3, now called the Talbot Trail) for approx. 1.5 km. Turn right (north) on Lagoon Rd. (at carwash) and continue north 1 km. to the lagoons. I remind you that you should have a permit from the town office (35 Talbot St.) located in Blenheim. ________________________________ Blake A.
