We now have two very young Red-necked Grebes at the nest beside the picnic dock in the Bronte Outer Harbour Marina. This is the new nest. The original nest is still active but there is no sign of any hatching there. I have been told that the first hatching was observed on August 20. The tire is mostly covered in weeds so if there are any photographers who have still not taken photos of these birds this is a good opportunity. Later afternoon light is best on sunny days. The young birds are often hidden under the wings of a parent.
There is also a family of Red-necked Grebes with 2 young often seen in Bronte Creek or on the lake west of the creek. Directions: Exit the QEW at Bronte Rd. (in Oakville) and go to the lake. Turn left at the lake. The nests are immediately east of the restaurant/banquet hall.
