Ontbirders
A very fresh and rather confiding juvenile Whimbrel was foraging in the
beach three area at Presqu'ile this afternoon. Several juvenile Baird's
Sandpipers, as well as, Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers frequented the
same area. Also about were Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plovers, Lesser
Yellowlegs and Sanderlings. A Merlin and a Peregrine Falcon were observed
buzzing the beach, the latter making a spectacular shorebird-scattering
sortie from one end of the beach to the other.
Most birds were seen from the viewing station on the former beach four, and
stretched all the way north to where recreational beach users were
clustered. With beach habitat improving, more shorebirds, including
Buff-breasted Sandpipers, are expected imminently.
The way to Presqu'ile is well signed south of Brighton.
