CASPIAN TERN. The highlight was a SNOWY EGRET."

DIRECTIONS: The ferry to Amherst I. leaves from a dock at the western side
of Millhaven. It is reached from the 401 by taking exit 593 south to
Millhaven. Jog right about 100 m. On Hwy 33 to the dock. The ferry costs
$5.00 Cdn return and starts at 6:20 a.m. Then 7:30 and thereafter on the
half hour. The KFN property is on the east side of the Lower Road [page 36,
quad E55]

OPINICON Road [page 36, quads Z57 & A56 & 57]

On May 24, Ken Kingdon reported on leading an OFO group: "Although the
weather was rainy all day, we were dressed for it. We saw and heard most of
the target species: CERULEAN & GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS, INDIGO BUNTING, AM.
REDSTARTS, BALTIMORE ORIOLES, WARBLING VIREOS and the flute-like "ee-o-lay"
of a nearby WOOD THRUSH.

CHARLESTON LAKE PROV'L PARK. [page 37, quad A60]

On May 28, The North Leeds Birders found birding by ear necessary in heavy
foliage. We heard and saw YELLOW-THROATED VIREOS, heard SCARLET TANAGERS,
CERULEAN and GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS, N. WATERTHRUSH, REDSTARTS, OVENBIRD,
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS and we had a looks at a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO
guzzling caterpillars. We found PIED-BILLED GREBE, OSPREYS and INDIGO
BUNTINGS on Black Rapids Rd. [page 37, quad A59]

PRINCE EDWARD POINT, [page 35, quads G52 & 53]

Paul Mackenzie reported for May 31: "Found a SEDGE WREN singing on territory
at an old site at Prince Edward Point. It is a small sedge marsh on private
property south of Gravely Bay
Road, and the access road is flooded. Anyhow it should be added to the KFN
records. Also at least 10 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, and singing ALDER and WILLOW
FLYCATCHERS but not many migrants today."

OTHER SIGHTINGS

Tom Howson reported: "On Monday the 25th of May, observed one BLACK TERN
hovering over the first marsh east of Joyceville Rd., on the south side of
the 401. Two GREAT HORNED OWLETS observed at south end of Lemoine Pt.. We
are quite upset about the Osprey nest located at the Kingston Airport which
was cleaned out on Friday. The Adults were seen flying low above the tower
where the nest had been built. You would think they could have waited until
the two had reared their offspring."
