OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE at 8:00 PM on Sunday February 9, 2003.

This is Chris Lewis reporting that there are ALMOST NO BIRDS IN
OTTAWA .Seriously, it continues to be a very quiet winter for
birding in Ottawa. Over-wintering birds still present as of
February 9th include 2 Canada Geese on the Rideau River behind
Carleton Lodge along Hwy. 16, a male Wood Duck on the Rideau
behind the Tennis Club, 2 male BARROW'S GOLDENEYES on the Ottawa
River at Remic Rapids, a female HARLEQUIN DUCK also behind the
Tennis Club, at least 5 GRAY PARTRIDGES along Colonnade Road, a
Carolina Wren at 868 Acadian Gardens on February 2nd & 3rd, several
American Robins in various locations (with more than 50 still in
the Shirley's Bay area on the 2nd), and a lone Wild Turkey which
is being seen almost daily at Fallowfield & Cedarview Roads. The
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK in Britannia has been searched for extensively
but has not been seen since January 31st.

Today, the 9th, a female Northern Pintail was in Manotick in the
back channel north of the Bridge Street Bridge. Another Carolina
Wren came to a feeder at 297 Summit Ave. in Alta Vista on February
3rd - this bird is not yet a regular customer but birders are
welcome to view the feeders from the driveway at this address.

Great Horned Owls were reported on several evenings last week in
the east end along Hwy 417 at the Innes Road overpass as well as
between Montreal & Blair Roads. Another was located near the
Cumberland Ferry.

A Cooper's Hawk was seen on the Quebec side along Belmont south of
the intersection with Aylmer Road on the 8th, a Merlin was at
Eagleson Road between Fernbank & Bridgestone today and another was
on Poulin Street in Britannia on the 8th, and at least 8 Common
Ravens were seen together on Riddell Road in Kanata on the 8th as
well .That's all!

Thank you - Good Birding!
