My wife and I took a trip from Peterborough to Algonquin Park yesterday. Our
route took us up Hwy #28 to Apsley then County road 504 and 620 to Highway
#62 which runs between Belleville and Bancroft.
We had a Northern Hawk Owl on Hwy #62, 2km north of the Junction of CR620 &
Hwy #62 and 20km south of Bancroft. The Owl was on a snag on the East side
of the highway. After about 5 min it flew 100yds and sat on the top of a
large spruce tree right adjacent to the highway for another 5 minutes before
disappearing to the
west side of the road. The spruce tree is opposite 911 number 24007 just
south of Robinson Lake which is on the west side of the Hwy.
We also had 35 Purple Finch on County rd 504 between Lasswade and Glen Alda.
In the park we had 2 Gray Jays, 6 White-winged Crossbills and a Boreal
Chickadee at the Opeongo gate.
