Bruce DiLabio reported, Saturday, January 11th birding Amherst Island. Had
enough time to bird the "Owl Woods" and east point of the island. (KFN

walking conditions were good. Had 5 live LONG-EARED OWLS and one recently
killed. Didn't find any SAW-WHETS and searched hard. At the east end saw one
SNOWY OWL and one SHORT-EARED OWL. Checked fields south of Stella no
SHORT-EARED and one SNOWY hunting. Bad viewing - windy and cold at dusk.

At Cartwright Point {page 49, quad N20} on Jan. 16 and 18, 2 CAROLINA WRENS
were at our suet feeders at 14 The Point Rd. The SCREECH OWL was seen
basking in the box on Woodpecker Lane by Don McCallum on Jan. 15. (Don lives
across the Lane from box).

Nick Gazendam saw an adult BALD EAGLE. Several c. RAVENS are seen there
daily."
Mike and Liz Evans had 4 E. BLUEBIRDS feeding on bittersweet berries in
their yard in

east to the Pine Grove. On the way there were 2 HORNED LARKS on the road,
and just in the low swamp before climbing up to the stand of pines, there
was a ROBIN and about 40 AM. TREE SPARROWS. Several more flocks of tree
sparrows were seen suggesting more have moved in since the snowfall. At the
junction of a side road to the north in the pine stand a flock of
CHICKADEES. contained one RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH. They seem scarce this
winter.
