Almost never I believe (although I'm not at all clear what you mean by

If you find an answer ambiguous ask for clarification! It's not
always possible assess the knowledge of the other party correctly and
be exactly as detailed as necessary without wasting the time and
boring the recipient with an overdetailed response.
