</snip>One nice thing about Perl is that you can choose your own style. Many of those posting here seem particularly fascinated by tightly packed one-liners. The language supports such constructs quite well. It also supports my coding style, which tends more towards the step-by-step and verbose, pretty well.
This is an interesting comment (and I agree to a point). I am curious if the people that post mainly one liners here actually code that way in their non-mailing list lives, I would doubt it (and obviously it depends on their project, specifically whether it will be re-used). I know to some like myself it is somewhat of a game (probably not correct word) posting on the list, a challenge to see how we can most easily do something in a short manner such that the meaning of the help is conveyed (and is helpful) while keeping the e-mail short. Just as many people are asking for help on a much larger project, but only need to post 15 lines or less to get the help they require. I know I tend to write more verbose code than many on the list, but I also realize that when I am trying to answer a question or ask one, I tend to write more concise not as 'readable' (3 months from now) code.
Just an interesting comment........
