Or people who realize perl is a wonderful rapid prototyping and
development language which is also efficient enough to be used in a
production environment.

When I discovered perl around 1994, I found it refreshing (after I got
used to all the dollar signs).  I found I could do all the stuff which
I used to do in sed/awk scripts faster and with far more precision.
