Hi Lara.
i read your message.
i wanna talk about your last sentence...
>And death to ASP :-)
a professional developer should never think that his/her own
interest is the best and other technologies are meaningless.
while i do respect your feelings, and thoughts,
ASP has its own advantages.
we are free to chose whatever we want, but not to accuse other rivals.
i started with ASP,and i tried Perl and PHP and i did many great projects in
all three, but finally i realized that what gives meaning to
ASP is COM.
and Servlets are so interesting also.
i like ASP,COM and Servlets cause they are full object oriented.
this is me,and maybe someone prefer non OO ones.
and there are lots of benchmarks that show,PHP is better for
simple to medium scale application.(not Large ones.)
while Servlet/JSP are for more sophisticated ones.
and if you are developing on Microsoft Technologies,
ASP cant do much unless you integrate it with Serverside components.
and at the heart of busiest sites you'll find C++ which is used by means of
Components.(COM objects)
to make a long story short....
if you are interested in internet programming :
1-on Windows Platform ASP,COM(ATL Server and ISAPI) together are the best.
2- on other platforms.....
if you are doing medium scale Web Application,PHP and PERL
are so great.
but if you are dealing with very complex application which needs
Threading issues ,security,and ...
Servlets and JSP are the choise of todays developres.
and everything has its own advantages,if it wasnt this way
there were no sign of them.
windows has its own advantages, linux has its own.
ASP has its own advantages Perl and PHP has their own.
PERL is a very great language for [U|L]inux platform.
dont ever say "death" to any technology,we should learn and try them
and find out which suit our interests and respect other developrs
who are interested in the things we dont like.
as i mentioned above,im more into COM+ and Java Technologies
but im also on PERL maling list :)
THANK YOU ,great world of computer programming :)
