You can load an image without logging in- but it overwrites whatever is on their. There is even a node app that I can link to you if you'd like to overwrite the image via USB instead of SD Card.
The true last-line of defense and must-have in your toolkit is a USB->Serial converter. Although, I use the black mostly, so I'm not sure if the blue has that (and don't want to look it up :-P) Andrew J.
