You don't need to log in to set up a new image, but it overwrites
everything.

Old images needed you to change some stuff on Windows to SSH over USB. New
images don't. I take it you haven't been keeping your kernel upgraded, etc?

I recommend Chris's solution about changing the wifi password back, logging
in temporarily, and updating to the new password. Then update your kernel
(`find / -name ".git"` will show you all the git repos on the device that
can be fetched/diff/merged/pulled w/ their README's and all) and test your
USB to make sure it works after that.
