Dimitri, I am thinking of changing the mount to iscsi which looks as if it is
more reliable than nfs.
Here is the mount -v
my.nfs.share:/home/backuppc/ToBackup on /home/backuppc/ToBackup type nfs
(rw,noatime,vers=3,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,namlen=255,hard,nolock,proto=tcp,timeo=14,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=10.6.77.220,mountvers=3,mountport=20048,mountproto=tcp,local_lock=all,addr=10.6.77.220,_netdev)

Francis

Ermm, all_squash is the opposite of what you want. Sorry for not being
clearer: all_squash is another thing that can result in "permission denied".

I usually just put in "noatime".

What does mount -v show? -- the other possibility is some nfs hickup got
it remounted ro.
