No need to do this, there is already a fixed package in proposed-updates for Xenial: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bacula/7.0.5+dfsg-4ubuntu0.1 >From the Changelog: "d/rules: do not use -Bsymoblic-functions when linking. Closes LP: #1553563, LP: #1567824." Also: Looking at the build logs from Debian, it seems that the problematic linker flags are specific to Ubuntu, which would explain why Debian is unaffected.
