Hi,

I will look into the "Prefer Mounted Volume" directive; I haven't looked
into it before; it is possible that's what's causing the problem.

I intended for each volume to only hold a single job. I do not want multiple
backups to interleave within the same disk volume. But, I do want several
jobs to simultaneously backup, each to a different volume on the same disk
(job1 goes to vol1, job2 to vol2, etc.)

As I described before, the intention is to backup many clients to a pool of
disks without having to explicitly assign which disk a specific job goes to.
I thought using a vchanger would solve that problem, but it didn't. Also, I
thought that would allow me to swap full disks out without having to
redefine job storage every time.

I defined a vchanger with 10x500GB hard drives, and with 20 virtual disks, 2
per hard drive. I thought I would be able to have up to 20 jobs going, each
through a virtual drive, and backing up to the 10 hard drives; i.e. 2 jobs
per drive.

But that didn't work. The vchanger sees the hard drives, and is able to
create the 100 predefined volumes on each of them, but then jobs would just
line up behind each other, and all jobs were backing up to the first disk,
through drive-0 which is one of the virtual drive associated with the first
hard disk.

I should add here that we made some changes to the vchanger script and its
conf files to be able to accomplish some of that, but I guess that wasn't
enough, or maybe not correct at all...
