I have not done much testing but I had to disable a small job (with a thousand or more files that are less than 1K bytes) on my W2K3 Enterprise server as the job failed 100% of the time and after a failure it marked the tape as Error as it detects that the number of files mismatch on the volume so it changed its status to Error. I believe it did this to 5 tapes before I caught the error message. I was running bacula 2.X on my server (linux) and client with VSS and spooling on.
