You've mentioned IDE but haven't said why, maybe you want IDE because you don't want to purchase a SCSI adapter?
You also haven't said what you mean by cheap :) HP make an external USB2 drive that holds 20Gb uncompressed which retails for AUD$1309. The 36Gb uncompressed version is AUD$1554. They also make internal USB2 versions of these.
