Hello List,

i am looking for a cheap IDE Tape drive which holds about 20GB
uncompressed data.

I doubt that there are many IDE tape drives out there at all.

It has to run smoothly with linux/bacula.
Internal or external does not matter.

Could anyone recommend me one?

I had (in fact I still have) an OnStream DI-30 and it did work with
Bacula but I would never recommend it for multiple reasons:
- - OnStream want bankrupt twice and is not coming back = no way to get
new tapes for the proprietary ADR format
- - it was very slow (3GB/hour)
- - it was very peculiar in its integration with Linux (doesn't work with
st but needs its own driver)
- - it felt quite unreliable to me. (I had many tape failures and it
regularly spat our kernel messages about corrected write and read errors)

I've switched to an SCSI LTO-2 drive (actually autochanger) now and am
not looking back. Given that LTO is probably not the price class you
want to look at, I'd recommend some cheaper SCSI drive that works with
the standard Linux st driver.

Greetings,
      Michel
